.... Just going to continue the conversation from the other thread.......

Yeah the Behemoth Kings are really nuts when other npcs are in the fight. The ones in the tubes of Cocoon weren't so bad but since mobs have levels and players don't, once you get into Pulse, I noticed the double digit leveled mobs are kinda tough. Also I've using that tip you gave me about the doctors code, so I have lots of shrouds!

Right now for speed kills and to make it easier to get 5 stars for missions, I'm using Com/Sab/Syn (Light/Vannile/Sazh). I've only done 8 missions so far but I've noticed there usually extra mobs with the mark so just using blitz until buffs/debuffs go out and then switching to a Com/Ravager/Ravage setup (I'd make Sazh a Commander but he doesn't get Launch so it's not really an option).

So for other people playing, what teams do you like to use?

What is your favorite Eidolon so far? Visually, I like Shiva the best, because both forms are pretty awesome. Odin was the first Eidolon you get and Light is pretty powerful, so it seems like he's the weakest. Alexander is outright retarded for being so powerful and requiring me to play Hope. I don't get why the strongest caster has one of the craziest Eidolons. Although the way Alexander does damage makes it less crazy. I haven't got to use Brynhildr yet but I don't like his vehicle form anyway so it's not a big deal. On a debuffed/staggered mob, I almost got the 100k damage in a single attack achievement with Shiva.. 95k... with her(their?) finishing move. I don't play Fang either so I haven't used Bahamut either but I thought his normal form looked really good and he seems pretty poweful.

Also I think it's funny that you ran up and tried to fight one of those giant shelled dinosaur looking things, Ryu. I was thinking about it and I believe there is an achievement but what I really want to fight is that giant Fire Giant looking thing (Kinda looks like a Titan from God of War) that eats the turtle-saur in the cutscene for Gran Pulse....lol.

Oh, what weapons do you like? I realize there are optimal weapons for the roles characters play but I don't want to just look that up and 'cheat' (like Ryu). For Light, I used Gladius until I level capped it and am now using Helter Skelter. Everyone else is still using the first forms of weapons. Vanille is using Beladonna's Wand (getting close to level capping it) and Sazh is using whatever he started with and I'm neglecting his weapons. Snow is using an offensive weapon but sometimes counter attacks can hit pretty hard so I think that's for the best. Steelguard reduces damage by crazy amounts so I don't think I'll really ever need to use a defensive weapon for him (although I'm keeping all of them that I get, just in case).... Hope/Fang are completely neglected but I'm setting stuff aside to make sure Hope can have loads of MP whenever I decide to swap him in. I hate that they made the Black Mage, the absolute strongest caster, an emo little boy.

Also I've very poor and I hate it. It seems like they made all those credit drops just to give you some money to upgrade stuff for Gran Pulse but now you just don't make any money and have to rely on killing stuff for items. Maybe there will be more military mobs that drop them later on. It's not too big of a deal though, I don't mind running around and farming items.

Well you go back to Eden later and fight more soldiers. but yeah... it's still silly how you don't get gil often, and stay on alert for the Catalog in the later chapters, and don't buy it from a store. equip it to get super drops from things you fight on Gran Pulse.

but yeah, I kinda like the groups of Light/Hope/Fang, and Snow/Sazh/Vanille. but I'll most likely change it up when I finish the main story line. also there better be more mini-games in FF14... or I'm going to strangle a Square Soft employee.

Yeah I got the Collectors Catalog and the Survivalists Catalog! And I don't know what mission you're on but they do make it less tedious not too far in. And with that comes gil... I think it was across about a 20 minute span, I made something like 150,000 gil.... I'm going to do all the missions before I continue the story though. I'm not sure if you have to but I think they are just there to give you some leg stretching room from the epic dungeon that is Cocoon. And FFXIV is a MMO dude BUT FFXIII Versus should hopefully make up for this games shortcomings. I really like it so far though. It was worth trading in Uncharted 2 for.

What I like to do is use Light/Sazh/Vanille and start out as Com/Syn/Sab and let Vanille 'try' to debuff stuff and once I get a weapon buff go Triple Ravager and get staggers in seconds, then go Com/Rav/Rav and nuke the hell out of shit. When mobs don't resist deshell/deprotect, I've got launched attack damage up to 40k with Light when she has a weapon buff. It's silly. Somethings hit way too hard though. Mission 12 was quite a bit of work when not using a Sentinel but when I did it, it was insanely fast.

As of right now, I've got most people level capped in their main positions and am working on a second cap for each (which is only level 4 since I don't think you unlock level 5 until much later or after you beat the main story line). Snow has something like 5k health or so but I have Hope using a big HP ring cause he's a little pussy that doesn't have as much health as others and sometimes he gets to Ravager tank since I rarely use sentinels.

I'm having trouble finding where to get mission 18..but apparently mission 54 unlocks this early and I picked it up not even looking at its number and went to try and do it. It was pretty amazing. I've been grinding some harder mobs with Snow and he was the only one that didn't get one shot....but that's only because of his Ardent Defender (that's not its name but I forgot what it was called and it's basically the same thing) ability that leaves him at 1 health if something would have otherwise killed him. The mob itself is pretty awesome though.

It opens up in chapter 11. The first 20-30 hours are just one massive linear dungeon crawler. Just to be warned, there are no towns or mini-games or anything. When it opens up, it's just a crap ton of side quests as well. Honestly this FF has been really streamlined but it's absolutely amazing looking (on the PS3 at least, not sure how it looks on the 360), and I'm going to have a hard time playing other games since graphically I think this game pretty much trumps every console game in this generation.

But since the Square Enix merger, they've got into the whole sequel thing and FF XIII Versus is going to be next and is supposed to be more like FF VIII but it uses the same graphics engine as XIII. So it should be a tad more traditional and less streamlined. My main gripe in XIII is the way combat works. I'd have liked to have the option to use the shoulder buttons to scroll through my party in combat and setup cast sequences during battles. Having 2 characters on cruise control is silly because they tend to use a silly priority system that isn't always that effective. But I'm still having loads of fun with the game. I think I've invested about 40 hours into it so far.

As I write this I'm in the middle of chapter 9 so I can only comment on about what I read. I have no idea why SE never made towns or a world map. They are features that most FF players love. o.o After getting used to the battle system after like 6 chapters I'm beginning to like it more, but I honestly will always be a bigger fan of the classic FF battle system. I want to control all my party members and tell them what to do. But the AI in this game is one of the best I've ever played with. Being able to depend on an AI controlled party member as a medic or to do buffs/debuffs is REALLY nice, rofl.

I need to read up on Versus. It's supposed to be like 8, you say? I've honestly never finished FF8 but I can tell you already it will be a massive improvement over the current FF13 if there are towns and a world map.

Also. Jihl is fucking HOT. >_> *molests tv screen* Play FF13 if you want to see the hottest woman EVER. o_o I can't think of any other game character or REAL person who can beat her. Her hair as amazing. I really love the graphics for this game. <3

Versus takes place in our current time though I believe since CG video I watched had a dude riding in a car.

For it missing what a lot of people would consider some standard RPG components, I think FFXIII is pretty amazing. I do see it as a game that was showcase what SquareEnix is capable of making and if they can improve on what they have, it's only going to get better. FXIII has truly raised the bar. Hopefully there will be a game from the Chrono series on the PS3.

Also, if you look at screenshots from FFXIV, it looks pretty similar, graphics wise. I wonder if it utilizes a toned down version of the same graphics engine.....an MMO that looks almost as good as FF13 would be insane.

o: I'm hoping they improve 14 since 11 was pretty terrible. But I want to play it on my computer....I'll have to update junk for it to run the game if it has similar graphics to 13. D: *puts settings on low* ... *cry*

You're right though, I'm not saying 13 is terrible. It's a really pretty game and the gameplay itself isn't terrible at all. I don't mind if they want to change things, but I'd like them to keep a few RPG elements that they gave the boot in 13. I've gotten quite good at Para-whatver shifting so they can reuse that system if they want! >_>;;

The classification of FFXIII to me is an Action RPG, then traditional RPG, so it's slightly disappointed to a classic RPG player myself, though the graphics are amazing.

Yeah I like the Paradigm Shifting. I would have liked more control. For example, still just have 1 TP gauge but for the whole party instead of just for the leader. The L2 and R2 buttons aren't even used at all in the game, so use those buttons to shift through the characters in your party. Techniques are all pretty much the same for each player, minus the Eidolons. You would have to designate a leader so if they were KO'd the fight would end (the only part that wouldn't make sense if you could control each character since you logically could just use Renew or Raise, or a Phoenix Down but it'd be too easy otherwise). But what you could do, is choose from 3 Eidolons. /shrug That's probably a bad idea....lol.

I don't think 11 was terrible. I think it had some pretty annoying design flaws. The PS2 version had terrible draw distances. The forced (grouped) level grinding was annoying but I think it forced you to meet people on the server you were playing on. Which kinda makes sense in a MMO. The losing experience when you died thing was just retarded but, in all honesty, it probably built a large pool of very good players as well. As opposed to the face roll leveling that teaches you nothing about your class in WoW. The Class/Sub Class mechanic was pretty awesome and while there were obvious optimal specs, I think it allowed less than optimal but utility type builds that were more customizable than just rolling a Druid/Shaman/Paladin. Paying an extra dollar a month per character was silly but you also could play every class with just 1, where the only limitation was bank/bag space for all different gear. I could probably go on for a while about FFXI. Some people loved it, and some people hated it. Pretty much the description for all FF games.

The screen shot is kinda small but it doesn't take away from the quality of the graphics really.

The only thing I disagree with from basically every site that reviewed FFXIII is that the first part is boring because of it's forced linearity. I really enjoyed Cocoon entirely.

FFXI was my first MMO and i loved it to the last day that i played, if it wasn't for 11 i wouldn't have met your brother and Doug and them and probably wouldn't be playing WoW right now smiley It had its draw backs but i enjoyed my time there. Still only in chapter 4 in 13 though need to beef up a little to get passed Odin lol he basicly 1 shotted me the first time i ran into him.

I just liked a lot of the concepts in FFXI. I never really played it. I watched Chris play it a lot though, since we were still playing Socom 2 at the time and I had a TV setup in another room of where he lived so we could play it together. Basically it's what I did to get out of the house. I liked the concept of chaining abilities between classes to do greater damage. In WoW all of that is just done through passive debuffs/buffs which is boring and lazy design to me. I don't think 14 will be like 11 though. Squenix already said that it was going to be streamlined, but hopefully it will be a tad more complex than WoW and all of the WoW clones.

If you are planning on going to the real life guild meet-up that we are planning, would the weekend of Nov 20 be good for you? We know it is close to Thanksgiving.

Yes, that's fine.

I can make it, but I'd rather it be another time.

No, that weekend is pretty terrible for me. If you moved it I probably could go.

No, that weekend is pretty terrible for me, but I don't think it'll work out for me anyways no matter what.
